Privacy Policy
Last updated 31 October 2026
This policy explains what MoVie AI (“we”, movieai.site) collects when you use the website and the app, why, who helps us run it, and the choices you have. We don't sell your personal information and we don't show ads inside the app. We advertise MoVie AI on Google and measure those ads as section 2 explains.
1. What we collect
- Your account: your name, email address, username, profile picture and how you sign in. Sign-in is run for us by Clerk.
- What you make: your projects and scenes, scripts, your messages to the AI assistant and its replies, shot lists, schedules and other planning documents, props and backgrounds you build, and your profile page.
- Files you add: reference photos, sketches, floor plans, pictures and clips for screens, profile banners, 3D model files, recorded voice lines and sounds you upload, and screenshots attached to bug reports.
- What the AI remembers: if you leave it on, your spellings, sound-note style, character voices and your answers to its quick questions, so it asks less next time. You can see, change, delete or switch this off in Settings.
- Prop maker chat: your messages to the AI, its replies and the list of changes (not photos, only their file names) are kept with that prop and deleted with it or with your account.
- Community activity: what you share, thumbs and votes, follows, challenge entries, achievements, and view counts of shared posts.
- Billing: your plan, billing period and subscription status. Card details are handled by Stripe; we never see or store your full card number.
- Usage and technical data: how many AI messages you have used, limits and counters that stop abuse, your IP address and browser details in server logs, and anonymous totals of which AI questions help. We also record how the product is used (see Usage analytics below).
- Messages you send us: if you write to us from the Contact page, we keep your message, the email address you give (or the one on your account), the topic, your plan and account number if you are signed in, and when you sent it, and we email it to the people who run MoVie AI so we can reply. To limit spam, we also keep the times of recent messages sent from the same email address and the same IP address, each stored only as a one-way code, never as the address itself.
- Testimonials: we may ask you once, after you share something or export a storyboard, for a few words about MoVie AI. It is optional. If you send one, we keep your quote, the name and role you typed, your account number and the time you agreed. It is shown on the website only if you ticked the box that allows it and we have approved it, and we remove it if you ask.
- Free message abuse prevention: to stop one person claiming many sets of starter messages, we keep one-way codes (a keyed hash, never the address itself) of the network your sign-up came from (a range of addresses, so a household or school shares one), of your device (see the device cookie in section 2) and of your email address, together with the result of your claim and your account number. The network and device codes are kept for 30 days. The email code is kept for 365 days, even after an account is deleted, so a deleted account can't be used to claim again. The short record of each claim (your account number, the outcome and short codes) is deleted after 12 months by a daily clean-up. We also count how fast Free messages are sent from your account.
- Production Hub: the cast and crew details, schedule, locations, tasks, files, budget and notes you put in a project. Cast and crew contact details (phone, email, availability and personal notes) are visible only to the members of that project whom you allow, field by field, and are never shown on a crew link unless the person chose that. None of it is sent to the AI. A read-only crew link or a personal link works without an account, and we store only a one-way code of each link, never the link itself. Hub emails (call times, tasks, mentions) carry a stop link.
- Video editor: your films (the timeline, text, subtitles and settings, but not the footage) are saved online as small private project files, with your last 10 versions kept. Your own clips, sounds and pictures are kept in your browser's storage on your device and are not uploaded while online clip storage is switched off; if we switch it on, uploads are private to you and are counted against your plan's storage. Our own speech-to-text for your clips is currently off, so we do not send clip audio to a transcription service. The optional AI assist sends only a summary of your own project (clip and track names, times, effects, subtitle text, shot names and any script you paste in), never your footage, audio or pictures.
- Emails you choose: the weekly update email (off unless you switch it on), invites you send to friends, the mobile app waitlist if you join it, and, if you tick the box for an export, one email to your own account address when that export is ready.
View counts are stored as a one-way code made from the post, the day and the viewer (your account, or for a signed-out visitor the IP address and browser together), so we can count each person once a day without keeping a list of who looked.
Usage analytics. To learn which features people use and where MoVie AI is slow or breaks, we record product usage events: which part of the site you open (for example the editor, the prop maker or the pricing page, never the full web address), features you use (such as playing a scene or adding a camera), which built-in props, animations and backgrounds your scenes use, error messages from the app, frame rate and loading time, AI requests that failed or were not charged, limits you reach, and plan changes. Each event carries the type of device (phone, tablet or computer), the browser and operating system, your country (worked out from your IP address, which we don't keep), and your account number when you are signed in. We don't record what you type, passwords, payment details, or the contents of your projects, scripts, chats or uploads. Only the people who run MoVie AI can see it, never other members, and every time one of them opens a member's activity it is written to an internal log.
2. On your device
We use cookies to keep you signed in, and your browser's own storage for settings, a backup of unsaved work until it reaches our servers, and voice recordings in progress (kept on the device for up to 7 days so a take can be recovered). Clearing your browser data removes what is stored on the device.
Video editor on your device. While online clip storage is off, the clips, sounds and pictures you add to the video editor, their editing copies and thumbnails, and a backup of your film until it reaches our servers are kept in your browser's file storage and database. A finished export is kept there for a day so a download can finish. Clearing your browser data removes all of it, so keep your originals. The “Listen to a clip” option for subtitles uses your browser's own speech recognition, which in Chrome sends the audio to Google and in Edge to Microsoft unless your browser transcribes on the device; we never receive that audio, and the app shows a note about it beside the button.
Device cookie. We set one cookie, movieai_did, for a year. It is a random code with no personal details. We use it only to notice the same device claiming starter messages on several accounts and for the referral programme, and we keep only a one-way code of it.
Google Ads measurement. On movieai.site (not on embeds on other sites) we use Google's tag to measure whether our Google ads lead to visits, sign-ups and purchases. It sets Google cookies and sends Google the pages you visit and your IP address and browser details. We don't use it to show you personalised ads. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland it stores nothing until you choose Accept; elsewhere it is on, and you can turn it off at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of the site. Your choice is kept in this browser. Google's own use of the data is described in its privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy.
Usage analytics on your device. Our own usage analytics uses no cookies. It keeps a random number for the browser tab you are using, erased when the tab closes. If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, if you choose Decline in Cookie settings, or if you turn off Usage analytics in Settings, your browser sends us none. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, visits while signed out are only counted, without that number, until you choose Accept. What our servers need to run the service (AI requests, limits, plan changes) is still recorded.
3. How we use it
- To run MoVie AI: save and sync your work, build scenes with the AI, play and export your videos, and show what you choose to share.
- To take payments and give you the features of your plan.
- To send emails about your account, billing, bug reports you filed, and the weekly update if you switched it on.
- To keep the service safe and fair: usage limits, spam and abuse checks, and moderating community posts.
- To answer you when you contact us, and to improve the product from usage analytics (section 1).
- To measure whether our Google ads bring people to MoVie AI (section 2).
If you are in the EEA or the UK, we rely on our contract with you (to provide the service), our legitimate interests (security, abuse prevention, usage analytics and improving the product), your consent (the weekly email, AI memory, Google Ads cookies) and legal obligations.
4. The AI assistant
When you use an AI feature, your request, the scene it works on and any file you attach for it are sent to our AI provider, Anthropic, to produce the reply. We don't use your content to train AI models. The AI's answers can be wrong, so check anything important. The Production Hub's cast and crew details and its other hub data are not sent to the AI. The video editor's AI assist is optional and can be turned off; it sends only a summary of your own project (names, times, effects, subtitle text, shot names and a pasted script), never your clips, audio or pictures.
6. How long we keep it
We keep your account and your work for as long as your account exists. When an account is deleted we delete its projects and their saved versions, video editor films and clips, uploads, sounds, community posts and their pictures and files, comments, votes, follows, profile, achievements, AI memory and usage history. Payment records are kept by Stripe and by us for as long as tax and accounting law requires. Server logs and backups are kept for a limited time and then removed. A few records that hold only an account number and nothing else (such as a past weekly challenge vote) can remain.
For Free message abuse prevention, the network and device codes are kept for 30 days, the email code for 365 days and the claim record for 12 months (see section 1). When a project or an account is deleted, its Production Hub data is deleted with it.
Usage analytics events are deleted 90 days after they are recorded, and the record that you are online now within 30 minutes of your last activity. After that we keep only totals that don't name anyone, plus a one-way code per account used to count returning members, for up to 25 months. When an account is deleted, its activity timeline is deleted straight away and its other usage events are deleted within 90 days.
7. Your choices and rights
- Change your profile and account details in Settings, and switch the weekly email or the AI's memory on or off there.
- Delete posts, projects and uploads yourself at any time.
- Ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to delete your account and everything in it: signed in, use Settings → Support and pick “Privacy, my data or deleting my account”; signed out, use the form at movieai.site/report. We answer within 30 days.
- Cancel a paid plan in Settings; it runs to the end of the period you paid for.
- Turn off usage analytics in Settings, or send Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control from your browser.
- You can also write to us from the Contact page, signed in or not.
Depending on where you live (for example the EEA, the UK or California) you may also have the right to object to or restrict some uses, to receive your data in a portable form, and to complain to your local data protection authority. We won't treat you differently for using these rights.
8. Children
MoVie AI is not meant for children under 13, or under 16 in the EEA and the UK. If you believe a child has given us personal information, tell us and we will delete it.
9. Security and where data is stored
Data is sent over encrypted connections, stored files are private unless you share them, and access is limited to what each service needs. No system is perfectly secure, so keep your sign-in safe and tell us if you notice anything wrong. Our providers may store and process data in the United States and other countries.
10. Changes and contact
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top, and for important changes we will tell you on the site or by email. Questions or requests: signed in, use Settings → Support and pick “Privacy, my data or deleting my account”; signed out, use the form at movieai.site/report. See also our Terms of Service.
